Larchmont Boulevard in Hancock Park, one of L.A.’s most “old world” neighborhoods, is so UP-AND-COMING, that it’s definitely worth a long, leisurely stroll that will, no doubt, turn out to be a TREASURE HUNT of sorts!  One of our new favorites is LIBRARY, an old school concept from Mike Mizrahi whose pop-up store, OpportUnity Workshop was the “test” for his new and incredibly unique venture. Picture a space with reclaimed wood from estate and salvage yards throughout the city, antique finds from local flea markets, and of course, book after book (2000+) lining the walls…not to mention the CLOTHES that will appeal to those who run the gamut from classic to adventuresome!

SIP/SAVOR: Happy Hour at The Palm

Well, how BABULOUS is THIS… The Palm has introduced new weekday BAR MENU called “Prime Bites” and BOY oh BOY,  Tte “Prime Time” Happy Hour goes from 5-7pm and then again from 9 til close. There are some great food deals to be had here. For just $3.50, one  can choose from Kobe Beef Sliders, Filet Mignon Capri Sandwiches, Chicken Strips, Crab Cakes, Veal Parmigiana Sliders, Calamari and a Prime Cheese Steak. My father, 89, still drives downtown to open the family business each and every morning. A family business, that’s been OPEN for over 90 years or so, NIGHT’S UNIFORM COMPANY is located in a small South East Texas town , (BEAUMONT, to be exact). I grew up with RED WINGS, most with Steel Toes, all around me. Growing up, NEVER would I have thought that a WORK BOOT could ever be such a COOL FASHION ITEM and THE SHOE to OWN as an adult!

All CANDLES are NOT created equal!  SCENTS, sure they waft through the air space and usually make us feel cozy all over.  The flames flicker for whatever MOOD we’re trying to achieve.  CANDLES are perfect for romance; an aroma therapy session; a dinner party; a holiday feast or an addition to your décor.  BUT what REALLY sets some candles apart is not only the container, but often the overall packaging.  Some of our favorites this month include these from ICON CANDLE at PALMETTO in the trendy 3rd Street corridor.  This little neighborhood gift store specializes in beauty products that stimulate the mind, body and soul OR a special significant other! Look for the likes of Kimberly Sayer London, Juara lotions that are inspired by Indonesian botanicals, Memories of Kyoto bubble bath and a selection of hard-to-find perfumes.  And on a special note…Palmetto is NOT a For Women Only’ store.  Cute kids and handsome hunks will also find a few BABULOUS essentials HERE!

While many websites only focus on the NEW, we also and always want to call your attention to our PERSONAL FAVORITES, the TRIED and the TRUE.  We are talking about a store that’s, no doubt, one of EVERYONE’S favorites…TRADER JOE’S!

Here are some of the SECRET ITEMS that we find HERE and cannot LIVE without!

For an IMPROMpTU weekend BRUNCH without going crazy thinking about it…TOP the PITA BITE CRACKERS (which are usually SOLD OUT, hence the reason we buy dozens at a time!) with CREME FRAICHE a dab of PACIFIC SUPREME SALMON and a pinch of red onion! Serve plenty of PROSECO mixed with DIXIE PEACH juice OR bottles and bottles of super-chilled Cold MARQUES de CACERES, a Spanish ROSE (only $6.99). Luckily, the label is so cool; you won’t even “think” to hide it.

The big eaters will love the Lingonberry SCONES (that are best served TOASTED) and the TWO-BITE THREE CHEESE SOUFFLES.
